We didn't set out to reinvent race day drinks. We just wanted to see if punters would actually wear a cocktail around their neck.
Turns out, they loved it.
The Day It All Clicked: Black Opal Stakes, Canberra
Our first ever race day activation was the Black Opal Stakes at Thoroughbred Park in Canberra. We rocked up with five cocktails, a compact pop-up bar, and absolutely no idea if this would work.
By the end of the day, we'd sold out of three of the five flavours, nearly cleared the fourth, and served over 900 cocktails at $20 a piece — all from a single small setup with minimal staff.
That was the moment we knew we were onto something. It wasn't just that people were buying them. It was how they were buying them.
Punters were coming back for seconds and thirds. They were showing their mates. They were wearing the pouches on their lanyards and walking around the grounds like they'd discovered a secret. Groups were lining up not because they had to wait, but because they wanted to see what flavours were left.
We'd accidentally solved a problem nobody in the racing industry had figured out: how to serve world-class cocktails at a busy outdoor event without bartenders, without glassware, and without queues.

From One Race Day to Every Race Day
After the Black Opal Stakes, Thoroughbred Park Canberra became our home track and a confirmed preferred partner. We've been at every race since — and at the Canberra Cup, with 10,000 punters coming through the gates, we consistently serve over 850 cocktails from our single pop-up bar.
Think about that for a second. Over 850 premium cocktails. From one small setup. At an event where beer and wine have traditionally dominated. We're not just competing with established breweries and distilleries at these events — we're consistently outselling them.
Since those early Canberra days, we've taken the concept on the road across NSW country racing. The Snake Gully Cup. The Narooma Cup. The Tathra Cup. At every single one, the reaction has been the same: punters love the concept, they love the cocktails, and they keep coming back.
We've now sold thousands of instant cocktails across country race meets, and we've expanded our range from those original 5 flavours to 10 — including crowd favourites like the Espresso Martini, Tommy's Margarita, Pornstar Martini, and our signature Fabulous AF Cosmopolitan.
Why It Works: The Hands-Free Factor
At a race day, people need their hands free. They're holding a race book, checking their phone for odds, eating from a paper plate, clapping when their horse hits the front. A glass or a cup doesn't work in that environment — it gets put down, knocked over, or abandoned half-finished.
Our cocktail pouches hang from branded MXTology lanyards around the punter's neck. You wear your cocktail. You sip when you want. You cheer with both hands. You never put it down because it's literally on you. And because there's no glass, there's no breakage, no safety risk, and no cleanup for the venue.
We've also built out a full music setup to bring the vibes in between races. So our pop-up isn't just a bar — it's a destination. People come for the cocktails and stay for the atmosphere. It turns a quiet corner of the grounds into the place to be.

The Problem We're Solving for Venues
If you manage events at a racecourse, you already know the headaches of running a cocktail bar. Trained bartenders are expensive and hard to find for one-off events. Glassware breaks. Ice runs out. Queues build up and guests miss races. The margins on traditional cocktail service at outdoor events are razor-thin once you factor in staffing, equipment, and waste.
MXTology flips all of that. Here's what we bring to every race day:
- Tiny footprint, massive output. Our branded pop-up tent, signage, music setup, and stock fit into a compact space. One setup, 850+ cocktails served.
- Speed that keeps punters happy. Serving a pouch takes seconds. No shaking, no mixing, no waiting. Your guests spend their time trackside, not in line.
- Zero glassware risk. No broken glass on the grounds. No safety incidents. No end-of-day cleanup bill.
- Premium product, simple operation. Every pouch contains a real, bar-quality cocktail made with premium spirits and real fruit. Our proprietary Citrus Fresh™ technology gives each one a 12-month shelf life and keeps them fresher than 98% of what you'd get poured at a traditional bar.
- We handle everything. We bring the tent, the signage, the music, the stock, and the staff. The venue gives us a patch of grass and we do the rest.
Built on Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars Australia
MXTology wasn't born in a boardroom. My co-founder Juliana and I built this brand on national television, reaching the Grand Final of Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars Australia on Team Gordon.
Gordon called our cocktails "Bloody Brilliant" — and that experience taught us to think bigger, move faster, and never cut corners on quality.
Every cocktail pouch in our range reflects that philosophy. We don't use artificial shortcuts. We don't compromise on ingredients. That's not just our brand promise — it's the reason punters come back for a second and third pouch at every single event.
What's Next
We started with five cocktails and one race day in Canberra. We now have 10 cocktails, a full event activation setup, and a proven track record across country NSW racing.
The old model of race day drinks — long queues, limited options, warm beer — is on borrowed time. Racegoers today want premium experiences, interesting drinks, and the freedom to enjoy the event without being anchored to a bar.
That's exactly why cocktails in a pouch keep cutting through. They're fast, premium, hands-free, and built for the way people actually move through an outdoor event. From drink pouches and pouch cocktails to premium alcohol pouches that guests can wear, this isn't a gimmick. It's a better service model.
Our Activatable Pouches™ do not have buttons. The ritual is simple: open, close, shake, then sip. That lets oxygen into the pouch to activate fresh citrus flavours, while Citrus Fresh™ technology locks in freshness by eliminating oxidation. You can enjoy the cocktail straight from the pouch, or add an optional lanyard for a hands-free experience while walking the grounds, dancing, or backing your next winner.
We're now partnering with racecourses and event venues across Australia to bring the MXTology experience to their grounds. If you're running events and want to give your guests something they've never seen before — world-class cocktails in a pouch they can actually wear — we should talk.
Whether you call them a cocktail in a pouch, cocktail bags, an alcohol pouch, or premium alcohol in pouches, one thing is clear: racegoers can't get enough of them.
